Welcome to another edition of "Works for Me Wednesday!" I hope you've enjoyed our series on "Repurposing" thus far. If you're new to the Frugal Bookworm, please feel free to look at the previous entries in the series: bags and boxes. Today, we're going to talk about baskets! Like bags and boxes, baskets have multiple and similar uses. Please join me as we take a quick look at some of my favorite uses for baskets!- Small baskets: I use small baskets to help keep me organized. My desk drawers and some of my dresser drawers have small baskets to keep like items together. When Walgreens offers in-ad coupons for little baskets, make sure you buy them! You can keep them for your next organizing project, or they might inspire you to organize a drawer right away! Small baskets would also be great in a bathroom...one holds my sister's toiletries; another holds those female unmentionables under the sink.
- Laundry baskets: Laundry baskets have more uses than laundry! When I moved, I packed a lot of my pantry items in laundry baskets. Laundry baskets are great to store toys in a playroom, balls in the garage, or shoes in a closet. We use a laundry basket outside to store outdoor water toys too (you might want to drill extra holes in the bottom for drainage).
- Coffee table baskets: Now, you can buy coffee tables with baskets! If you have a large enough coffee table, you might also buy coordinating baskets to use with it! When my mom bought her last living room suit, she bought coffee tables with baskets at the bottom. The baskets for the end tables have hinged lids, as do the baskets for the sofa table (which is now in my office holding a small copier...we store extra office supplies in the baskets). The coffee table baskets hold my sister's toys and activities. These baskets have greatly helped clean up our living room!
- Pretty baskets: You can use pretty baskets for just about anything! We use them for gift baskets, another holds my knitting upstairs. I have one under my jewlery armoire holding all the different lotions I use.
- Gift baskets: You can use pretty baskets or laundry baskets for all sorts of gifts. The key is to pick a theme! We've often given a laundry basket filled with household goods as a gift for wedding showers. You can pack a laundry basket with small bottles of detergent, towels, washclothes, and so forth for a college student. A pretty lined basket filled with bath & body items would be a great gift for a friend, or you might fill a basket with items for a new baby.
As you can tell, you can repurpose baskets for so many things! Please join us next week, as I continue the "Repurposing Series" with a post on bottles!
